Van Gogh along the Seine – Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam

In this groundbreaking exhibition you discover why the area along the Seine around Asnières was a crucial place for the artistic development of Vincent van Gogh, Paul Signac, Georges Seurat, Emile Bernard and Charles Angrand.

The exhibition shows how the city and landscape changed through the industrial revolution and industrialisation. Five artists – Vincent van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Paul Signac, Emile Bernard and Charles Angrand – headed to the banks of the Seine to paint. With their easels set up in the greenery, they captured the radical contrasts they encountered in the area: day-trippers relaxing in lush nature set against smoking chimneys and wasteland.

Traveling with Vincent – Drents Museum Assen

At the Drents Museum, the Drenthe period of Vincent van Gogh is highlighted in the exhibition ‘Traveling with Vincent’. Discover perhaps the least known work of the world-famous painter and follow Vincent on his wanderings through the Drenthe of 1883.

Visitors to the exhibition board the train together with Vincent, look at the Drenthe landscape through his eyes and meet the contemporaries and sources of inspiration that mattered to him during his stay in Drenthe, such as Jacob van Ruisdael, Jean-François Millet and Anton Mauve.

Never before has the Drenthe period of Vincent van Gogh been the subject of such a large exhibition. For the first time, as many works as possible from his Drenthe oeuvre are on display.

In close collaboration with the museum, Lanzfeld Editions produces many products that can be found in the museum shop of the Drents Museum.

The Vincent van Gogh exhibition can be seen until 7 January 2024. More information at www.drentsmuseum.nl

The Children of the Hague School – Panorama Mesdag The Hague

Moving, entertaining, poignant and intimate

The exhibition ‘Children of the Hague School’ offers a glimpse into the world of children at the end of the 19th century. In the paintings and drawings of renowned Hague School painters such as Hendrik Willem Mesdag, Suze Robertson, Jozef Israëls and Jacob Maris, and contemporaries like Thérèse Schwartze and Barbara van Houten, the children come to life – intimately, sometimes movingly, sometimes poignantly.

You see children who worked alongside their parents in the fields, bringing in the fish, or who worked for example as maids or basket weavers. Children, in short, who played their part inside and outside the family, focused on survival. This stands in stark contrast to the intimate portraits the painters made of their own children.

The exhibition consists of around 45 paintings and drawings from museum and private collections, including previously unseen drawings from the collection of Museum Panorama Mesdag.

From 16 December 2023 to 20 May 2024. More information at www.panorama-mesdag.nl
